The March 16, 2010 Newton Amateur Radio Club meeting was held in the basement of the Newton Public Library. The meeting was called to order by Vice President Joe Palmer at 7:10PM. In attendance were Charles Meisinger, Joe Palmer, Justin Reed with Karen Winter, Kent Stutzman. Visitor at the meeting was jerome Kahn, ACØRL.

The February minutes were read and accepted.

The Treasurers report: Took in dues of $145 at the February meeting, paid PO Box Rent of $40, leaving $579.64 in checking and $30 petty cash

Justin mentioned that while waiting to do the tower work that the 146.61- repeater could be worked in to the K-Link system. Justin and Mike will need to get keys for the gate around the tower to enter the building. Justin has been controlling the K-Link build-up since 1993.

Storm Fury on the Plains presentation was discussed. Jerome asked what was covered. Joe gave some detail as to where to locate so that you can see the right area of the storm safely.

RACES: Lon will be sending a note to Kent to send to the RACES list for a meeting yet before the storm season comes around. All RACES members should plan to attend.

Jerome is in Hutchinson and communtes to Kansas City. He is looking to put up a retractable Arrow tower at 60' and get a StepIR as well as a DB-36 and a G5-RV. Joe mentioned that PRB-1 was codified to allow hams to be able to set up their stations to be able to adequately communicate.

There are presently 2 Bills before the US House and Senate. Both bills address Amateur Radio Emergency Communications Enhancement Act of 2009 (Referred to House Committee after being Received from Senate), while HR-2160 still is not moving forward in the House. Please continue to contact our representatives so that amateur radio can play the role that we are charted to do in the rules.

Field Day: June 26-27, 2010. Plans will need to be made for a different location this year.

Joe Palmer recounted his time on the Newton PD and working for 16 hours taking amateur radio traffic after the tornado went through Hesston.
