The October 20, 2009 meeting was held in the Newton Public Library.  The meeting was called to order at 7:07pm by President Mike Harvey.  Present were Banks, David Duerksen, David Godshall, Ray Franz, Jeanne and Russell Groves, Mike Harvey, Dan Inskeep, Joe Palmer, and Kent Stutzman.

Minutes: The September Minutes were read and approved with a correction in Kent Stutzman's home phone number for the Flatlander's Ride, and a clarification on the repeater status (current status detailed below).

Repeater: Mike reported we are currently running on the Master II Mobile "backup repeater".  The original repeater is sitting in Mike's garage.  Mike is planning on doing some more testing of the original repeater and will hopefully put it back into service shortly.  He found the hum was caused by a missing speaker, which was corrected by the addition on an 8ohm resistor.  The Motorola Micor repeater is in the shop getting crystals tuned.

MCC Flatlanders Bike Ride: Dan and Ray were unable to help for various reasons, so the ride was monitored by Jeanne and Russell Groves, David Godshall, and Kent Stutzman.  Kent operated the Net Control station from home, with the SAGs handled by the rest.  We kept track of about 80% of the riders; others either turned back early, did the shortest course which we did not monitor, or sailed through the SAGs without stopping or displaying their numbers.

Kansas QSO Party: Kent Stutzman gave a little update:  Randy Wing is handling the scoring and reported he was about 2/3rds of the way done.  Bob Harder made a beautiful looking certificate which Kent passed around.

Boy Scouts Jamboree On The Air:  Mike Harvey gave a report on his participation.  He was there two nights; after a little rain it cleared up and was beautiful weather.  They had a special events callsign of K0T.

Newton Festival of Lights: Kent said the Festival of Lights is no longer a function of the Newton Chamber of Commerce, it is now being handled by the Lion's Club, who intends to make it a larger event.  The Lion's Club was given our information so we are expecting they might contact Kent for our assistance.  The specific date is currently not known.

H1N1: Kent said he was going to check with Lon to see if there were plans on handling a possible outbreak on the "swine flu" virus and what part the club might play in it.

Transworld Antenna TW2010: Mike was going to bring it and show it off, but he wasn't sure there would be enough room.  It's a 12m high easy-assemble multiband HF vertical antenna.

Election: David said he was stepping down at Secretary/Treasurer at the end of this term, and invited others to consider the position.  Nominations for the President, Vice-President, and Secretary/Treasurer will be at the November meeting.

Meeting adjourned at 8:10pm.
